Linux

Linux, is one of the emerging OS build either for home user and enterprise needs. Initially build from UNIX simplified core, nowadays it is one OS that suitable for people that doesn't have the capital to invest for microsoft platform. Using GUI as medium of comunication between user and computer, in time it become much easier to use and very convinient platform for business entity to install it at their computer. For desktop needs its almost free of charge as long u obtain a copy of it by downloading it from internet, buy it from reputable retailer and also get it from friends.

My first experience for Linux (Redhat 6) in 2006 was terrible. Nearly everthing i need must use Terminal even to mount USB flash drive. Although i get a hang of it several weeks later, my impression about linux at that time was not entirely good. Sure its free, but it needs more interactive using the GUI to make sure novice user don't be put out by the sheer complexity to configure anything. Takes for example, graphic card configuration takes a hefty several minutes using terminal to select every option imaginable (and even some that i haven't heard before) to make it work. The graphic card was Nvidia GeForce 4200Ti. Help ain't very easy to obtain since the NIC card driver is not installed during installation and the particular driver need to be obtain from internet by other mean (windows anyone).

Now after such experience i give it a try with Ubuntu for my sheer curiosity. Everything is made right after installation. Everything i can think of is made ready in GUI representation although some i still use terminal (ifconfig anyone?). It become very matured OS currently, i was impressed of the development of linux OS for every distribution available. I tried Ubuntu, Fedora 9, Mandriva and OpenSUSE. Which Linux distros stays long in my system as dual boot, it is OpenSUSE. I will tell u later y i was attracted to this distros (ironically it was made by novell and byitself owned by microsoft)

As a lecturer, i was appointed to teach my student linux in one of my subjects. My first batch of student was tought using Ubuntu. There was one reason for this. Its actually easier to obtain due to u can order it from the site asking for a free copy but it takes at least 2 weeks to arrived at my address. Still good for my standard. The student grasp its function quite well, and they could fine apps they need easily with built in repository list. Although they still need to grasp the terminal command for more option and requirements for certain applications.

All is good for linux. There still long journey for it to become a mainstream OS for user.

At last i got my original copy of vista

Finally i able to to treat myself an original copy of windows vista home premium. This is some of my goals or u can say commitment after i attain a job and get paid for my work. I was using a pirated version of windows vista ultimate although i could only use it for 30days. While i was using "trial" vista ultimate, i found the security measures are upgraded from windows xp and to certain points its actually do feel like linux in certain ways. Not a bad thing i must say. Every command that try to invoke system operation will stop everything in the background and prompt u a dialog box, warning if the command is actually invoke by an authorized user or isn't. I like that. Windows user nowadays takes everything for granted and usually doesn't even inspect what operations is actually processing in the background. One bad habbit i notice that some will always click yes at every dialog box appear in his screen which later not suprising, his computer got nasty malware. After some time using the vista ultimate, i decided this OS deserve my support (and a part of my wallet cash) but i couldn't afford an ultimate. I settle with premium instead and i love it ever since.

Almost every part i need is still available with premium. The only regret when i do purchase this is the shop doesn't have 64-bit vista premium in stock. Not a big problem and actually a good thing. When i'm operating 64-bit vista, my scanner doesn't have a driver for that kind of OS. My scanner model is CanoScan 3000EX and at some website i found in the internet mention canon won't support 64-bit OS for some of its devices. Pretty bad technical support i might say. Performance wise, its identical between the two (64bit & 32bit vista) until developer use extensively 64 bit coding in their program. In other aspect, my computer only have 2 GB of RAM, getting 64bit vista is actually redundant.

Upgrading between 32bit vista to 64bit vista is out of the question without clean install due to difference in architecture and technology. There's a way to minimize the impact of the clean install by using backup function of vista (windows everywhere or something) but it won't be that easy since some of your devices may not have 64-bit drivers. Check that your computer components does support 64 bit OS at least in terms of drivers.

In 3 years windows 7/vienna will roll out to market (hopefully). I'm gonna start saving for it and Diablo 3 too. :D

The day passed away... sloowly

I have graduated and attain my Master degree. Overall it was eye-opening experience and its most fun learning experience even compared to my degree. Until now i obtain

  1. Master of Science in Information Technology
  2. Degree in Software Engineering and Games Design
  3. Diploma in Multimedia Application (Programming)
  4. Certificate in Computer Maintenance and Repair
  5. Aptech Computer Certificate Professional (ACCP)
Currently i'm employed in a private college teaching I.T and networking subjects. Its okay but quite a frustrating and exhausting experience. It give me some fundamental of teaching which i need for future endeavor.

I loved teaching to be honest. I also loves to have a reasearch topic that i might do when i'm within a college or university. This college currently doesn't provide this kind of needs and i might as well looking for another college if its possible.

The salary is okay, but seriously not up to standard. My colleague with undergraduate degree already obtained RM2500 as basis when he start working. I only have RM2200 when starting and it won't get any higher. No salary update when working longer, long contact hours, no bonus, not much benefits having work here make me really scared what could happen if i work here longer.

Anyway I won't join up with small company, its sucks being there i'm afraid. I was working with 3 man small medium enterprise for less than a year (almost tbh), due to desperation I owe Telekom about RM2000 since the boss didn't pay anything after 3 month the company is closed. The story begins with the boss want to relocate our operation to kajang so we will be quite nearby bangi for a project tied to a university. The thing is he talk about being a team and i should bear some responsibilities contribute to the company by using my name registering phone line and broadband. All is well after a while, even after several month company was closed, until i was phoned by TM representative about the debt. After some digging he didn't even payed anything before, although its much more confusing that the service we're having didn't have any distruption at all at anytime there. Sneaky i might say.

The morale of the story is although work is hard, don't be desperate to grab and follow anybody instruction without any reason and at least analyzed thoroughly its risk. If not u will end up like me or with more severe circumstances. For me i need to pay my stupidness for RM2000, what will you pay?

My streamyx connection is slow on every ip imaginable. TM is doing something in their location. i hope they finish it soon so i can play online game with peace.

For my Master degree, the final semester is over and currently waiting for the result. I already prepare my resume and cover letter to apply to be a lecturer in a public university. I hope it works out good.

While waiting, i currently explore JoomLA CMS capability to understand the structure and programming of this great open source CMS. This move is to ready myself for possible marketing services i could offer for CMS customization. After understanding the feature this CMS can do, i will try to create a template for JoomLa CMS. If i generous enough i will post the step here so other can create their own template.

What a short life we have

What a short life we have in Earth. I currently finalizing my Mini Thesis to complete my Master degree. I have to find help to correct my grammar in my research paper, adding additional information to the thesis because my information is not enough according to my lecturer. All needed to be handle in one week. Good time. zzzZZZZZzzz

In another twist of fate, i have difficulties programming a mini-project in ASP with MS Access 2007. It regarding cursortype and locktype that giving me message like :-

Current Recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype

After much fiddling here and there, i found setting security setting solve the problem. In windows explorer, look for tools and folder options. In view tab, search for "Use Simple Sharing (Recommended)" and uncheck it. Then right click the database folder, select the security tab, search user name as "IUSR_" and click write permission and everything u need. Later u test it with running add, update and delete record script. It sure solve my problem.

Hello, My name is Saiful but known in Blueserver, forum.mykmu.net and Eve-Online as AcheLone. You can call me Ache. My name is from Ache and Alone (Sakit Sendiri). I'm a malay of course and not an agressive person. In this blog anyway i gonna comment and rant about my life in Malaysia.

Malaysia in a way, not a bad place to live. Well for a Malay is the best there is. No war, ethnic cleansing and such brutal slaughter cannibal. Myself are proud to be Malaysian, Kuala Lumpur City Center are the pinnacle of Malaysian Achievement (Well not solely build by Malaysian, we got help from foreign consultant and engineers).

Malay are the majority here but there Chinese, Indian, Singh, Kadazan, Iban and lots more races living in Malaysia. Malay got a special previlage in certain aspect at least from previous Prime Minister its not being abused like an apartheid. I mean the thing some ppl can go in a place some can't stuff, some can live in a location some can't stuff which is not what previlage use in Malaysia. I not rightly sure what is it though, but maybe priority in education, loan and stuff is effected. There are some unsatisfied with this, hehe but the formation of Malaya (former name of Malaysia) Malay got the previlage and Chinese, Indian and other got citizenship.

Food is great especially. U can get almost anything except those illegal ones like tiger paw, penis and such.

Will rant more in the future. Good Day.
